Speaking at the announcement of the company’s preliminary results, Peter Erskine, chief executive of O2, said that market growth was slowing and so the company wanted to strengthen customer loyalty and offer an ‘enhanced customer experience’.
He said: ‘We aim to improve customer retention and reduce churn, to create a sustainable basis for enhanced long-term returns. To support these initiatives O2 UK plans to hire approximately 2,000 new retail and customer service staff over the next two years.‘ However, to help pay for the expansion around 500 jobs would go ‘across a wide range of managerial and administrative functions’.
O2 currently has operations in Leeds, Bury and Preston Brook near Runcorn.
